Vietnamese swimming prodigy Nguyen Huy Hoang set a new Asian record in the 1500-meter freestyle at the 2024 Asian Swimming Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Clocking in at 14:34.80, Hoang surpassed the previous record set by China’s Sun Yang in 2012.
This achievement places Vietnam firmly on the map in Asian swimming, a sport traditionally dominated by China and Japan. Hoang’s performance is expected to inspire a new generation of Vietnamese swimmers, as the country invests heavily in its aquatic sports program for future international competitions.
